Job summary

Richmond SPCA is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer in Richmond, VA to partner with the CEO and Board to shape financial strategy and ensure long-term sustainability for lifesaving animal welfare programs.

The role oversees accounting, reporting, compliance, internal controls, treasury, and risk management, with responsibility for capital budgeting, donor restricted funds, and financial reporting to lenders and the Board.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive financial leadership experience in a nonprofit or blended environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related business discipline; CPA preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Strategic financial planning and governance with multi-year modeling.
• Maintain general ledger, monthly financial statements, and compliance with GAAP and nonprofit standards.
• Oversee revenue accounting across diverse streams and fund classifications.
• Direct lender relationships, debt covenants, and bond compliance reporting.
• Lead capital budgeting, risk management, and internal controls; supervise accounting staff and facilities oversight.
