Job summary

Rochester Precision Optics in West Henrietta, NY is seeking a Buyer to source materials, negotiate terms, and maintain reliable supplier performance to support production. This role handles day-to-day purchasing, drives cost improvements, and collaborates with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality to meet schedule and budget.

You will manage supplier relationships, track lead times, and ensure compliance with ITAR/EAR requirements while supporting inventory and cost control initiatives.

Qualifications

• 3+ years direct purchasing experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
• Experience with commodity purchasing and supplier management.
• Proficiency in purchase orders, supplier communication, pricing, lead times and material availability.
• ERP experience; Epicor preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and Supply Chain.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate pricing, lead times and payment terms to meet cost, quality and delivery objectives.
• Drive cost reductions through supplier negotiations and PPV improvements.
• Procure materials and services at best total cost of ownership while maintaining continuity of supply.
• Independently quote materials and project-based purchases.
• Track and improve supplier on-time delivery and performance.
• Identify and mitigate supply risks and capacity constraints.
• Support inventory-turn goals through disciplined purchasing practices.
• Collaborate with internal teams to resolve supply issues and support new products.
