Job summary

Lamar University is seeking a Budget Analyst to perform comprehensive financial analysis and reporting for LU and TSUS campuses. You will develop budgets, forecast trends, and provide leadership with actionable insights to optimize resources and ensure compliance with state standards.

The role involves advising on budgetary matters, preparing reports, and supporting financial planning initiatives across university units, with emphasis on data visualization and ERP system data integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, General Business, or related fields.
• Experience in accounting, auditing, finance or budget preparation and analysis, and performance measurement reporting work.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and processes budgetary transactions for submission to the University operating ledger, including temporary and permanent transactions; updates position budget records for salary changes, funding realignments, and budget savings.
• Develops, prepares, and analyzes operating budgets and expenditure projections; provides management with budget data, trends, forecasts, and recommendations to support financial planning and resource allocation.
• Collects, analyzes, and reports financial and operating data to identify budgetary issues, evaluate alternative solutions, assess fund allocations, and identify opportunities for efficiency.
• Advises University constituents on budgetary matters, expenditure requirements, and actions needed to maintain compliance with approved budgets; communicates budgetary principles and trains on procedures.
• Maintains financial and trend data and develops graphs, reports, forecasts, and other analytical tools to support budget management and decision-making.
• Prepares or assists with legislative appropriations requests, fiscal notes, analyses, and other budget reports.
