Job summary

FOCUS Broadband is North Carolina’s largest communications cooperative seeking an HR Benefits & Leave Administration Specialist. The role focuses on benefits and leave management, including open enrollment, eligibility, and documentation, while also supporting payroll changes, talent acquisition, wellness, and HR compliance.

The specialist collaborates with retirees, managers, and leadership to maintain accurate, confidential records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
• Five+ years of HR experience with at least three years in benefits and leave administration.
• Strong knowledge of employee benefit programs and applicable leave and accommodation requirements (FMLA, ADA, PWFA, workers’ compensation).
• Experience administering comprehensive benefit programs (health, welfare, retirement, voluntary benefits).
• SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, CEBS or related certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administers team member benefit programs across medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement and voluntary benefits.
• Manages benefit elections, life events, documentation, enrollment deadlines, and records.
• Coordinates with broker(s), vendors, and carriers to resolve eligibility, enrollment, coverage, claims, and billing issues.
• Ensures benefits compliance, plan administration, and related filings and notices.
• Maintains benefits records in HRIS and other systems, verifies invoices and handles reconciliations.
• Oversees open enrollment planning, materials, communications, and meetings.
• Coordinates all leave processes, documentation, status updates, and return-to-work planning.
• Supports payroll changes, ADA interactive process, and leaves integration with payroll.
• Provides confidential HR support, assists with talent acquisition and new hire orientation.
• Coordinates wellness programs and company events; prepares reports and dashboards.
