Smithfield Foods is seeking a Strategic Automation Project Manager to lead automation and capital engineering initiatives across facilities, aligning engineering investments with enterprise goals.

You will guide multidisciplinary teams through concept to commissioning, manage budgets, schedules, and vendor relationships, and drive scalable solutions that support future manufacturing.

Travel up to 50% and a strong engineering background are required.

Competenze

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Automation Engineering or related field with 8+ years of experience.
• 2+ years of team management or project leadership experience.
• Strong automation systems knowledge: PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, instrumentation, VFDs, robotics.
• Basic coding and scripting with ability to understand software integration and APIs.
• Experience with automation project execution including design, procurement, commissioning, and startup.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control narratives.
• Strong capital project management skills: budgeting, scheduling, risk management.
• Experience with robotics, machine vision, IIoT, MES, and digital manufacturing.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 50%.

Mansioni

• Develop and execute a multi-year automation engineering roadmap.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, IT, OEMs, and partners to define requirements and scope.
• Lead automation and controls modernization initiatives across facilities.
• Manage projects from concept through commissioning and handoff; oversee budgets and schedules.
• Oversee controls architecture, electrical, instrumentation, networking, SCADA, and HMI design and validation.
• Coordinate engineers, OEMs, contractors, and internal teams for project delivery.
• Prepare business cases, ROI analyses, and executive updates; monitor performance against objectives.
• Mentor and develop engineering staff.
