Job summary

Western Governors University seeks a Principal AI Platform Operations Engineer to shape the long-term AI operations and platform vision for the organization. You will guide deployment, reliability, and governance of AI/ML systems at enterprise scale from Raleigh, NC, collaborating with executives and product leaders.

Lead the creation of reference architectures, drive frontier tooling adoption, and mentor engineers while coordinating with legal, privacy, and security teams to meet regulatory

Qualifications

• Recognized expertise across AI operations: deployment, platform engineering, observability, reliability, governance, and MLOps at enterprise scale.
• Ability to define and communicate multi-year technical strategy; translate goals into roadmaps.
• Expert-level knowledge of AI safety, responsible AI, model risk, security, and governance.

Responsibilities

• Defines multi-year AI operations vision and strategy aligned to mission.
• Establishes reference architectures and engineering principles for AI/ML deployment and governance.
• Leads evaluation and adoption of frontier AI operations tooling and infrastructure.
• Drives complex AI operations programs including platform migrations and reliability initiatives.
• Advises executives on AI operations strategy, risk, and investment priorities.
• Defines AI operations governance including responsible AI and cost accountability.
