Job summary

Gauss Management Research & Engineering (GMRE) is hiring a Buyer / Procurement Specialist in Ogden, Utah to plan and execute purchases for defense and aerospace programs. You will own assigned purchases from requisition through receipt, balancing cost, schedule, and compliance, while coordinating with Planning, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Inventory, Finance, and Program Management.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of purchasing, procurement, or supply-chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
• Experience buying electrical interconnect, wire-harness, electronic, mechanical, or aerospace components and services preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review requisitions, BOMs, drawings, specifications, and revision levels before solicitations or orders.
• Prepare RFIs/quotes; obtain competition; evaluate responses; document supplier selection basis and requirements.
• Negotiate price, lead time, delivery, payment terms, and other terms to achieve best value within authority.
• Create and administer purchase orders in the ERP/MRP system with terms, quality clauses, and delivery schedules.
• Manage the complete PO lifecycle: acknowledgment, status, expedites, changes, receipts, and closeout.
• Maintain current promise dates and purchasing data to support schedules and forecasts.
• Source aerospace interconnect materials including wire, connectors, hardware, and related items.
• Verify manufacturer part numbers, specs, and traceability before award.
• Coordinate with Engineering and Quality to resolve part-number discrepancies and supplier changes; approve only with required authorization.
• Develop qualified alternate sources and monitor supplier performance.
• Support supplier onboarding, evaluation, surveillance, and site visits in coordination with Quality and stakeholders.
• Execute procurements per GMRE procedures and approvals; prepare complete procurement files.
• Apply price analysis; obtain reviews for cost data when required.
• Ensure contractual, quality, cybersecurity, traceability, and record-retention flow-downs are followed.
• Support internal audits, customer reviews, and CPSR readiness with accurate records.
• Serve as primary commercial contact for suppliers; communicate status and risk clearly; coordinate with Receiving and Accounts Payable to resolve discrepancies.
• Use data to identify opportunities for cost reduction, lead-time improvements, and supplier consolidation.
• Perform other duties consistent with role and level of responsibility.
