About the Hiring Group

RTI is currently recruiting for a Strategic Account Executive (SAE) to support our current and future work with the Department of Defense (DoD).

As the SAE for DoD, you will join a team with a long history of success in this field and will be focused on growing our portfolio. Specifically, you will focus on leveraging our capabilities to grow RTI's footprint within the DoD. As the DoD SAE, you will develop and lead client account management and RTI's business expansion strategy by managing client relationship building and account strategy for the DoD. You will collaborate with other SAEs and relevant project staff to build and execute strategies to drive growth. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of the DoD's strategic priorities and goals, structure, funding mechanisms, key organizational contacts, and pain points. It is anticipated that you will leverage your deep knowledge of the DoD and relevant funding sources to understand where RTI's scientific, research, and policy capabilities can add value, thus driving and diversifying our revenue and deepening our impact on improving the human condition.


What You'll Do

  • Develop and deepen knowledge and engagement to help drive long-term growth through the delivery of RTI's services, products, and expertise
  • Generate, shape, identify, and qualify new opportunities that align to the growth strategy
  • Improve client retention by driving accountability for improving the overall customer experience
  • Manage client activity using client relationship management tools for maximum efficiency and visibility, with carefully executed follow-up to close any open issues
  • Meet regularly with current and prospective clients to build trusted relationships and gain a better understanding of their needs, challenges, and overall environment
  • Understand the competitor landscape to gather business intelligence. Lead intelligence gathering to develop a robust business development pipeline
  • Lead external partnership strategy and relationships to expand RTI's growth at DOD
  • Develop short-, mid-, and long-term account plans that align to RTI its Business Unit's budgets, strategic priorities, policies and initiatives, pronouncements, and upcoming opportunities
  • Represent RTI at client meetings, conferences, scientific meetings, industry days, webinars, and teaming meetings to gain better perspective of the client and competitive environments
  • Continuously build the RTI brand by demonstrating how RTI adds value to clients
  • Develop and support the external scientific and professional reputation of the organization through individual professional activities
  • Engage with internal government relations, strategy, and marketing teams for market and competitor assessments
  • Collaborate internally to ensure efficient cross-selling, visibility on key projects, and proper allocation of resources
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with project staff such as researchers, data analysts, training and technical assistance specialists, system engineers and project management specialists, understanding how key technical capabilities align with client needs
  • Partner with project delivery teams to gain additional client knowledge, help ensure client satisfaction with current project work, and maintain a client-centric culture of business development
  • Help develop and support the scientific and professional stature of project staff to address skill gaps in current project teams to help ensure client satisfaction
  • Assist business units with strategic hiring actions, specific to justice and public safety initiatives
  • Participate in capture planning and proposal review, and make written contributions as necessary

What You'll Need

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and at least 20 years of experience, or a Master's degree and at least 16 years of experience, or a PhD and at least 12 years of experience.
  • At least 10 years' experience working directly with and/or supporting the Department of Defense.
  • At least 8 years' demonstrable experience in a client-centric/client facing role.
  • Experience with health research, innovation, training and technical assistance, and/or information technology services.
  • Proven track record of growing a public sector-funded portfolio.
  • Strong understanding of Department of Defense contract vehicles and procurement strategy.
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B visa status, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Defense Health Agency (DHA) and U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC) experience.
