Position Overview

We are recruiting a Strategic Account Executive (SAE) to support our work with the Department of Defense (DoD). The SAE will focus on growing RTI’s footprint within the DoD by managing client relationships and developing business expansion strategies. Success requires a deep understanding of the DoD’s priorities, structure, funding, and key contacts, leveraging this knowledge to identify opportunities where RTI’s capabilities can add value.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and deepen knowledge to drive long-term growth through RTI’s services and expertise.
  2. Identify and qualify new business opportunities aligned with growth strategies.
  3. Enhance client retention and improve customer experience.
  4. Manage client activities using CRM tools for efficiency and follow-up.
  5. Build trusted relationships with current and prospective clients to understand their needs.
  6. Gather business intelligence on competitors to develop a robust pipeline.
  7. Lead external partnership strategies to expand RTI’s growth at DOD.
  8. Develop account plans aligned with RTI’s strategic priorities and budgets.
  9. Represent RTI at meetings, conferences, and industry events.
  10. Build and promote the RTI brand and reputation.
  11. Collaborate internally to ensure effective cross-selling and resource allocation.
  12. Maintain strong relationships with project staff and technical teams.
  13. Support project teams to ensure client satisfaction and address skill gaps.
  14. Assist with strategic hiring and participate in proposal reviews.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 20+ years of experience, or Master’s with 16+ years, or PhD with 12+ years.
  • At least 10 years working directly with/supporting the DoD.
  • At least 8 years in a client-facing role.
  • Experience in health research, innovation, training, or IT services.
  • Proven track record of growing a public sector-funded portfolio.
  • Strong understanding of DoD contract vehicles and procurement strategies.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Defense Health Agency (DHA) and U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC).
