Job summary

City of Indianapolis seeks a senior supervisor to oversee permitting review staff and field inspectors focused on floodplain, private stormwater drainage, driveways and street construction. The role ensures training and enforcement of codes, coordinates with consultants and agencies, and tracks permitting data.

The incumbent will supervise staff, assign tasks, monitor productivity, and identify process improvements to deliver efficient services in line with local, state, and federal regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field and two (2) years’ related work experience in construction or related industry.
• Five (5) years of related experience may be substituted for the formal education.
• Must have an ability to understand and interpret construction plans, as-builts, and stormwater and drainage designs.
• Must have knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations within subject area.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Program Manager: Stormwater in the direct oversight of permit review staff and field inspectors responsible for floodplain, private stormwater drainage, driveways, and street construction projects.
• Responsible for providing training, guidance, direction, and direct supervision of staff to ensure proper code and policy enforcement.
• Responsible for staff assignments and monitoring staff productivity while identifying and implementing process improvements necessary for providing efficient and effective services.
• Works cooperatively with consultants and staff to ensure the issuance of permits and scheduled inspections occur timely and in compliance.
• Interacts regularly with residents, contractors, developers, and other agencies to address permitting or field related inquiries.
• Assists in the development, maintenance and tracking of permitting and inspection data required for use in regular and annual reporting.
• Regularly performs field inspections to assess the quality of inspections performed by staff and/or when workload demands.
• Responsible for reviewing violation cases for accuracy and assisting with legal case file preparation when applicable.
