Job summary

The City of New York is seeking Environmental Engineering Interns to join the Stormwater Permitting section (BEPA) in Queens, NY. Under supervision, interns will review construction plans for stormwater compliance, inspect sites, and assist with SMPs under the MS4 permit.

Qualifications

  • Degree in environmental, fire protection, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering.
  • Or degree in engineering technology with two years of relevant environmental engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to read and understand engineering plans and drawings
  • Understands SWPPP requirements and applicable rules and codes; able to perform calculations to check designs
  • Reviews applications for compliance with rules
  • Responds to complaints
  • Inspects construction sites for compliance with approved plans
  • Inspects stormwater management practices (SMPs) for compliance with permit
  • Communicates questions and concerns on applications and inspections

Education

Baccalaureate degree in environmental, fire protection, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering
Baccalaureate degree in engineering technology and two years of full-time related experience in environmental engineering
