Job summary

The City of New York's DEP BEPA seeks Environmental Engineering Interns for the Stormwater Permitting section in Queens, NY. Under supervision, interns review construction plans for stormwater compliance and inspect sites before, during, and after construction.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in environmental or related engineering or engineering technology with relevant experience. The role emphasizes reading plans, calculations, and field observations to ensure permit adherence.

Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree in environmental, fire protection, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering from an accredited college; or A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in environmental, fire protection, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering technology and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in environmental engineering work.
  • Possession or ability to obtain NY Driver License may be required.
  • Strong reading of plans, technical reports, calculations and codes.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction plans for compliance with stormwater management rules.
  • Inspect sites before, during and after construction for permit adherence.
  • Prepare supporting calculations and documentation to demonstrate compliance.
  • Read design plans and locate proposed practices in the field.
  • Communicate questions and concerns on applications and inspections.
