Job summary

The City of Boulder is hiring Stormwater Operators to perform skilled operation, maintenance, and repair of a large stormwater system including mainlines, manholes, and BMPs. You will work on diverse utility tasks, locate underground lines, and respond to emergencies, with continuous opportunities for professional training.

Positions span Operator I–IV with duties that include after-hours standby, data entry, and cross-training across divisions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; two years related experience may substitute for education.
• Valid Colorado CDL Class A license; ability to obtain within nine months for new hires.
• State of Colorado Wastewater Collections System Operator Certification (Class 1/2/3/4) or ability to obtain within nine months.
• Backhoe and Loader Certification; training obtainable within nine months.
• OSHA 10-hour certification or equivalent.
• ATSSA Traffic Flagger Certification or equivalent within nine months.
• Confined Space Certification within nine months.
• Water Quality Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans Level 1/2 certification within nine months.

Responsibilities

• Constructs, maintains and repairs wastewater systems, including routine maintenance of equipment.
• Troubleshoots and repairs to the wastewater and stormwater systems.
• Performs utility locates and uses locating equipment; identifies underground utilities and main breaks.
• Responds to after-hours emergencies and weather-related shifts as needed.
• Maintains records and data in asset management software; collaborates with other city divisions.

Commercial Driver’s License Class A

State of Colorado Wastewater Collections System Operator Certification (Class 1/2/3/4)

Backhoe and Loader Certification

OSHA 10-hour certification

Traffic Flagger Certification (ATSSA)

Confined Space Certification
