Job summary

Columbus Consolidated Government is seeking a skilled operator to run motorized equipment for storm water installation, maintenance, and repair. You will supervise assigned personnel, perform daily equipment maintenance, and assist with cave-in work and utility services.

The role requires knowledge of storm water systems, strong problem-solving and supervisory abilities, and a valid Georgia driver’s license (CDL preferred). Outdoor work is typical in various weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the storm water system.
• Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the storm water system.
• Skill in the investigation and resolution of drainage problems.
• Skill in implementing policies and procedures.
• Skill in problem solving and decision making.
• Skill in management and supervision.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Train, supervise, and monitor the work of assigned personnel.
• Perform daily maintenance and safety inspection of assigned equipment.
• Assist crews with identifying cave-in ownership; assist other departments with vacuum and high pressure water services.
• Maintain inventory of all supplies and equipment.
• Operate a backhoe, tillers, dump truck, box blade, and chain saw.
• Participate in repair and maintenance activities; repair cave-ins on storm sewer boxes and pipes; replace pipes and broken grates; remove trees; build inlet boxes; repair walkways.
• Complete required records.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
