Job summary

City of San Marcos, Texas, is seeking a Stormwater Crew Leader to plan, coordinate, and oversee drainage infrastructure maintenance and construction. You will direct drainage projects, perform field design work, and collaborate with external agencies to ensure project success and regulatory compliance.

The role administers the City’s Stormwater Management Program, oversees equipment operations, and provides responsive support to the public.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum five years of street/drainage/traffic maintenance experience, including two years in a lead role.
• CDL Class A required within one year of employment.
• Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) required within 90 days of employment.
• Need CISEC or CESSWI certification within three years from hire date.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Leads and participates in maintenance, construction, and improvement of drainage infrastructure and ensures safe operation of storm sewers, channels, ditches, ponds, and rights‑of‑way.
• Administers the Stormwater Management Program and oversees drainage projects, field design, coordination with external agencies, and required documentation.
• Supervises assigned staff with direction, training, performance feedback, and adherence to safety standards and regulations.
• Operates and oversees heavy equipment usage and performs manual work as needed to complete projects.
• Monitors and coordinates maintenance of departmental equipment, including scheduling repairs and field repairs when needed.
• Provides on‑call and emergency response support for drainage issues and public concerns; assists other City departments as required.
• Acts as Stormwater Systems Supervisor in the supervisor’s absence and supports continuity of operations.
