Job summary

Berkeley County Government seeks a maintenance worker to perform drainage system upkeep across county easements, operating chainsaws, weed eaters, and other machinery. The role requires routine repairs, debris removal, and safe operation of County vehicles to protect residents.

Responsibilities include unclogging drainage, inspecting equipment, and assisting in disaster response. Candidates should have a High School diploma and a valid SC driver’s license; CDL preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; courses offered to pursue diploma.
• One year of related maintenance experience.
• Valid South Carolina driver's license with safe driving record; CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance on drainage easements using chainsaws, weed eaters, earth compactors, and county vehicles.
• Unclog drainage with vac trucks, excavators, and other equipment.
• Clean debris from drainage systems and inspect for issues.
• Check for and repair sinkholes.
• Inspect equipment for proper operation.
• Build and maintain retention walls and foam pipes to repair and seal.
• Perform site safety tasks and provide traffic control.
• Assist in disaster response and communicate with the public.
• Remove dead animals to ensure resident safety.
• Maintain personal safety equipment and perform other duties as assigned.
