Job summary

Berkeley County Government seeks a Maintenance Worker to perform drainage system maintenance across the county, operating chainsaws, weed eaters, compactors, and various county vehicles while staying courteous with coworkers and residents.

Essential duties include unclogging drainage, inspecting and repairing equipment, building walls, applying sealants, providing traffic control, and assisting in disaster response.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred; classes will be offered to those interested in pursuing a diploma;
• One (1) year of related maintenance experience;
• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license for South Carolina with safe driving record; CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine maintenance on drainage easements, operating chainsaws, weed eaters, compactors, and County vehicles.
• Unclogs drainage with various equipment and vehicles (vac trucks, excavators, etc.).
• Cleans debris from drainage systems and checks for sinkholes.
• Inspects equipment and maintains retention walls; foam pipes to repair and seal.
• Performs site safety and provides traffic control; assists in disaster response.
• Communicates with the public; removes dead animals for resident safety.
