Job summary

The City of Valdosta is seeking a field-focused inspector to perform technical duties in the inspection of ponds and stormwater outfalls. You will conduct analytical and visual inspections, monitor rain gauges, and maintain logs of readings and results.

Responsibilities include annual pond inspections, post-storm assessments, pump inspections, and supporting stormwater crews with inspections, cleaning and maintenance. A valid Georgia driver's license and basic reporting skills are required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of pond and outfall inspection principles and practices.
• Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of water testing methods (conductivity, detergents, pH, temperature, fluoride).
• Ability to operate assigned vehicle.
• Ability to prioritize and organize work.
• Ability to prepare required reports.
• Good oral and written communication.
• Completion of specialized training in the field and high school education.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience or completion of an apprenticeship/internship.
• Valid driver’s license issued by the State.

This position performs technical duties in the inspection of the city's ponds and outfalls.

• Conducts analytical and visual inspections of stormwater outfalls.
• Checks rain gauges and records measurements.
• Maintains daily logs of activities, readings and inspection results.
• Inspects city ponds annually and following major rain events.
• Inspects stormwater pump (e.g. Mary Street pond pump)
• Provides assistance to Stormwater crews as needed with inspections, cleaning, and other maintenance of the stormwater system.
• Performs related duties.

Requirements

• Knowledge of the pond and outfall inspection principle and practices.
• Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of testing procedures used to determine conductivity, detergents, pH levels, temperature and fluoride levels.
• Skill in the operation of an assigned vehicle.
• Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
• Skill in the preparation of required reports.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
