Job summary

New Hanover County is seeking a Stormwater Maintenance Worker to support the Stormwater Services Division within the Engineering Department. The role involves semi-skilled manual labor to clean and maintain drainage systems, operate tools and equipment, and perform landscape and waterway clearance tasks.

Responsibilities include running heavy equipment, transporting county vehicles, and reporting drainage issues.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One year of landscape and/or waterway clearance experience or equivalent.
• Good driving record and NC CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain stormwater drainage systems.
• Operate and transport heavy equipment (backhoes, excavators).
• Drive county vehicles and ATVs.
• Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Clear debris from waterways and cut branches as needed.
• Report blocked waterways to Engineering Department.
