Job summary

Barrow County is seeking a supervisor for stormwater system construction, maintenance, and repair. The role involves leading staff, managing projects outdoors, and enforcing safety protocols in a safety-sensitive environment with pre-employment and random drug testing.

The position requires a CDL-B, Road Flagging certification, and Georgia soil & water conservation Level 1A. Expect coordination of field crews, equipment operation, and public interaction daily.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Five (5) years of related work experience or equivalent training/education.
• Road Flagging Certificate required.
• Georgia soil and water conservation Level 1A certified personnel.
• Valid State of Georgia Class B CDL Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff: prioritize and assign work; conduct performance evaluations; ensure training and policy adherence.
• Oversee stormwater system construction, maintenance, and related public works projects.
• Operate and maintain light and heavy equipment (front-end loader, backhoe, excavator, etc.).
• Maintain logbooks, process work orders, and manage inventory.
• Evaluate safety hazards and ensure proper equipment use at worksites.
• Order materials and prepare specifications; locate underground utilities.
• Respond to public questions/complaints about department services.
• Schedule routine equipment maintenance and perform other duties.
