Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff and assign work; evaluate performance.
• Supervise and participate in stormwater construction, repair and maintenance projects.
• Operate front-end loader, backhoe, excavator, and other equipment.
• Perform administrative duties: logs, work orders, inventory.
• Evaluate hazards and ensure proper equipment use.
• Order materials and prepare specifications.
• Locate underground utilities.
• Respond to public questions and complaints.
• Schedule routine equipment maintenance.
• Perform other assigned duties.

Job description

This position is responsible for supervising and participating in stormwater system construction, maintenance and repair projects. From this job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Barrow County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace.

• Supervises staff to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment.
• Supervises and participates in the work of personnel involved in performing stormwater system and related public works construction, repair, and maintenance projects;
• Supervises and operates light and heavy equipment such as a front-end loader, backhoe, excavator, compact loader, mower, tractor, dump truck, hand tools, and other construction equipment in the accomplishment of various department projects;
• Performs administrative duties to include maintaining logbooks, receiving, and processing work orders and maintaining inventory;
• Evaluates safety hazards and checks work sites for proper use of equipment;
• Orders materials, equipment, and supplies, and prepares specifications for equipment and materials;
• Locates underground utilities;
• Responds to public questions and complaints about department services;
• Schedules routine equipment maintenance; and
• Performs other assigned duties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is typically performed in the outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
