Job summary

APTIM in Norfolk, VA is seeking an Environmental Scientist to support stormwater compliance and other environmental tasks. This full-time role involves field sampling, data management, and site inspections at client facilities.

You will travel to multiple sites, operate sampling equipment, review permits such as MSGP and SWPPP, and maintain accurate records. Candidates should have a Bachelor's in a core science, 1–2 years' experience, strong communication, and a valid driver’s license;

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a core science, engineering, environmental science, or related field.
• 1–2 years of related work experience; entry level considered with degree.
• Willingness to travel for stormwater sampling.
• Ability to work independently in varied field conditions.
• Overtime and weekend work may be required.
• Excellent written and oral communication; detail oriented.
• Stormwater inspection/sampling experience desirable.
• Stormwater and/or asbestos certification a plus.
• Valid driver's license.
• Digital data collection and reporting skills (e.g., Autobuild, PlanGrid, Equis Collect).

Responsibilities

• Collect environmental samples in the field and prepare them for lab analysis.
• Calibrate and use technical instruments.
• Review permit documents (NPDES MSGP, SWPPP, SPCC) for site requirements.
• Plan, organize, and schedule field activities across sites with client approvals.
• Travel to sites using a personal vehicle and coordinate with client personnel.
• Document results and maintain inspection reports and recommendations.
• Perform field inspections and assess site conditions for regulatory compliance.
