Job summary

The Town of Zebulon is seeking a skilled Stormwater Equipment Operator under the supervision of the Stormwater Manager to repair, maintain and replace stormwater infrastructure using a range of heavy equipment. This role includes leadership of a small work crew, diverse concrete and pipe tasks, and routine street maintenance.

The position requires performing excavations, regrading and cleaning of drainage systems, plus responding to severe weather events.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or its equivalent.
• 1-3 years of experience operating light to heavy duty construction equipment.
• Must possess a valid North Carolina Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License.
• Tanker endorsement preferred or ability to obtain within six months.
• Qualified Stormwater Infrastructure Inspector or Qualified Stormwater Inspector Certifications preferred or ability to obtain within six months.
• Stormwater SCM Inspection and Maintenance Certification preferred or ability to obtain within six months.
• Background or experience in stormwater infrastructure maintenance, repair and construction preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment including backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, skid steers, and excavators.
• Maintains and schedules maintenance for equipment and tools.
• Performs concrete work related to stormwater infrastructure (curb, gutter, manholes).
• Performs surface and subsurface stormwater maintenance and repair.
• Assists with line locating for stormwater lines and inspections.
• Responds to severe weather events and assists in recovery operations.
• Prepares daily logs and uses software to input data.
• Maintains safety procedures and work zone protections.
