Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking a Hydraulic Design Engineer to lead H&H design for transportation infrastructure, stormwater drainage, and flood mitigation projects. The individual will work closely with our Transportation Design Department on roadway/highway, municipal street, and pedestrian (greenways, multi-use trails) projects, as well as flood mitigation alternatives design. Knowledge of NCDOT design standards and practices and experience in project development workflow are preferred for the position. This position is for the Raleigh, NC area, or other Summit NC offices.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with our Transportation Design team on roadway/highway, municipal street, pedestrian projects.
  • Provide flood mitigation alternative design solutions.
  • Conduct hydraulic analysis of bridges, culverts, channels, and storm drain systems using HEC‑RAS or equivalent models.
  • Evaluate floodplain impacts and prepare No‑Rise certifications or flood studies as required.
  • Perform hydrologic modeling to estimate stormwater runoff.
  • Use knowledge of NCDOT design standards and practices to produce NCDOT compatible designs.
Qualifications
  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in Hydraulic Design – bridges, culverts, stormwater drainage.
  • 3+ years of progressive hydrologic and hydraulic design experience.
  • EI required; PE preferred.
  • Experience with GIS, Open Roads Designer, or Civil3D.
  • Initiative to learn, grow, and communicate effectively.
  • HEC‑RAS (2D) flood modeling.
  • BMP inspection and design.
  • CMF certification.
  • Interaction with clients and public agencies.
