Job summary

City of Wilmington is seeking a Stormwater Crew Leader to guide a field crew responsible for maintaining storm drains, channels, ditches and retention ponds to prevent flooding and protect infrastructure.

The role requires three years of heavy equipment experience, a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within 90 days. You will supervise daily tasks, ensure safety, and train subordinates while supporting ongoing maintenance and improvement projects.

Qualifications

• Minimum three (3) years of related heavy equipment experience.
• Selected applicants will be required to perform a heavy machinery skills test.

Responsibilities

• Field Supervision: Assigns daily tasks, monitors work quality, and ensures the crew adheres to all safety and traffic control protocols.
• Infrastructure Maintenance: Directs the repair, cleaning, and upkeep of storm drains, open channels, ditches, and retention ponds.
• Equipment Operation: Operates light, medium, and heavy machinery for installation of pipes; setting up traffic control; maintaining BMP areas; cleaning ditches.
• Compliance & Tracking: Maintains buildings, storm preparation and cleanup, safety meetings, public communication, and progress documentation.
• Training & Development: Coaches subordinate workers, leads safety tailgates, and assists with hiring and evaluations.
