Job summary

Department of Environmental Protection in Augusta, ME is seeking an Environmental Specialist II to perform stormwater compliance inspections and audits across the Central Maine region from the Augusta office. The role requires a bachelor’s degree with science/engineering credits or equivalent experience and knowledge of water quality laws and stormwater practices.

The position offers a permanent full-time/year-round career with competitive hourly pay ($22.08–$30.89) and a 2.5% salary adjustment,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with 15 science/engineering credit hours or a four-year combination of education and experience in environmental science or related area.
• Knowledge of water quality laws and regulations.
• Knowledge of stormwater best management practices.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively.
• Ability to manage compliance inspections associated with multiple stormwater permits.

Responsibilities

• Conduct compliance inspections and audits for a variety of industrial, commercial, and municipal discharges in the Central Maine region.
• Review and comment on NOI, NEC, NOT forms, SWMPs and SWPPPs.
• Complete data entry into the Department's databases.
• Interact with other inspectors, enforcement staff and regulatory agencies.
