Job summary

NV5, a leading engineering and consulting firm, seeks an Environmental Engineer/Scientist for its Water Resources practice in Torrance, CA. This role focuses on stormwater compliance and water quality initiatives for diverse clients in Southern California.

You will apply regulatory knowledge, perform inspections, prepare SWPPPs and reports, and support project delivery, with opportunities for technical leadership and client management as you advance your career at NV5.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Water Resources, or related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience supporting stormwater compliance, environmental permitting, water quality programs, or related environmental consulting services.
• Strong understanding of the California Industrial General Permit (IGP), Construction General Permit (CGP), Region 9 C/I permit, and/or municipal NPDES permit programs.
• Experience performing environmental inspections, stormwater monitoring, sampling, and regulatory reporting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and client interaction.
• Valid California driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Support stormwater compliance programs and water quality initiatives within California’s regulatory framework.
• Prepare technical documents including SWPPPs, WPCPs, ERAPs, MIPs, SAPs, QAPPs, and regulatory compliance reports.
• Conduct site inspections, compliance audits, stormwater monitoring, sampling events, and wet-weather monitoring activities.
• Evaluate monitoring data and develop practical compliance strategies and corrective actions.
• Support design and implementation of stormwater BMPs and treatment control measures.
• Assist clients with permit interpretation, compliance implementation, and regulatory agency coordination.
• Contribute to project planning, scheduling, budgeting, proposal preparation, and business development.
• Collaborate with project managers, technical experts, and clients to deliver high-quality projects.
