Job summary

Housing Works in New York, NY is seeking a Customer Engagement Associate to support the store’s daily operations and maximize sales. You will open/close the store in the manager’s absence and use Housing Works’ tools to maintain standards.

The role requires excellent customer service, strong communication, and a willingness to train and develop volunteers and staff. Flexibility for weekends and holidays is expected.

Qualifications

• Commitment to excellent customer service.
• Experience/knowledge of thrift store environment preferred.
• Excellent communications skills (verbal and written).
• Self-starting, self-motivating mindset.
• Basic mathematical skills and ability to handle daily cash operations.
• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays.
• Ability to stand, walk, kneel, and lift up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Open and close the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
• Use Housing Works’ tools to ensure store operations and standards are met.
• Ensure compliance with Housing Works’ policies and procedures.
• Review store environment to improve operations and merchandising.
• Handle staff/volunteer deployment, sales goals, and promotions.
• Train and develop staff and volunteers to meet standards and goals.
• Ensure staff are trained on register operations and merchandising.
• Care for donations and store merchandise and fixtures.
• Merchandise store per Housing Works standards with engaging displays.
