Job summary

St. Norbert College seeks a Store Manager for Phil’s Grill, overseeing daily operations of Phil’s Grill and the C-Store with student staff supervision. You will hire, train, schedule, and mentor staff, manage payroll and inventory, and ensure HACCP compliance.

You will work with the Assistant Head Chef of Retail Operations to develop standards, coordinate ordering, promotions, and campus engagement, while delivering welcoming service in a fast-paced, high-volume campus setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Culinary Arts, or related field is a plus.
• 3–5 years of progressive food service experience, including food preparation, short-order cooking, and cash handling.
• At least 2 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a food service environment.
• Ability to obtain ServSafe certification within 90 days of hire.
• Strong mentoring, training, and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse staff.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, including the ability to professionally address and resolve customer concerns and conflicts.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume, and sometimes noisy environment.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines, and make sound decisions on time.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, with the ability to learn new software and technology as needed.
• Ability to lead by example and foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of Phil’s Grill, including preparing menu items, serving customers, operating the POS system, stocking and rotating products, and following all health and HACCP requirements.
• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and mentor student employees. Manage biweekly payroll and schedules while meeting labor budget goals. Develop and maintain training materials, job aids, and development opportunities for student staff and supervisors.
• Support the training and development of full-time supervisory staff in collaboration with the Assistant Head Chef of Retail Operations.
• Manage daily administrative and financial duties, including cash handling, POS programming, sales reporting, and use of operational software such as PADMIN, CBORD, Menu Board, and Grubhub.
• Place weekly food and supply orders and manage inventory to meet budget and food cost goals. Ensure proper product rotation and participate in inventory counts, budget reviews, and promotional activities.
• Develop and implement operational standards, policies, procedures, and training practices to support efficient and consistent operations.
• Collaborate with the Phil’s Grill management team, sales representatives, and Retail Dining leadership on marketing initiatives, new products, and strategies to engage the campus community.
• Monitor student feedback and industry trends to identify opportunities for new products, services, and improvements to the C-Store.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

St. Norbert College (SNC), a nationally ranked, private Catholic liberal arts college, is seeking a Store Manager for Phil’s Grill. This position is responsible for the overall management and daily operations of Phil’s Grill, as well as oversight of the C-Store.

The Store Manager provides leadership and supervision for student staff and works closely with the Assistant Head Chef of Retail Operations to address operational needs and challenges. Key responsibilities include hiring, mentoring, scheduling, training, and directing staff; placing orders; preparing food; stocking products; and maintaining inventory. The successful candidate will help ensure a welcoming, efficient, and well-run operation that provides excellent service to the campus community.

The position generally works Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., during the academic year. Occasional later evenings and rotating weekend shifts may be required. During academic breaks and the summer months, the schedule will vary and may include daytime, evening, and weekend hours.
