Job summary

Insomnia Cookies is hiring a Store Manager in Training (MIT) for our University of Minnesota store at 402 14th Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414. The role focuses on supervision, staff onboarding, and delivering outstanding customer service while supporting the Store Ops Manager.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of supervisory experience in a restaurant or retail store.
• Experience conducting in-person interviews of hourly staff.
• Experience using Point of Sale (POS) systems.
• Ability to use MS Office and an Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
• Ability to work a 4- to 5-day week with 1–2 late shifts (Thu–Sun).
• Must be 18+ and legally eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Perform as Manager-on-Duty during scheduled shifts when the Store Ops Manager is unavailable.
• Supervise, train, and coach 2–5 team members in cookie sales and deliveries.
• Lead onboarding and initial training for new hourly staff.
• Conduct initial interviews for new hires in the manager's absence.
• Support ordering, inventory control, and scheduling for the store.
• Ensure upselling and high-quality customer service across the team.

What will I do as a MIT with Insomnia Cookies?

• Perform as Manager-on-Duty during scheduled shifts when Store Ops Manager (GM) is not present
• Supervise, train and coach 2-5 team members engaged in both cookie sales and customer deliveries
• Lead new hourly staff onboarding and initial training
• Conduct initial interviews for potential new hires (Cookie Crew, Shift Leaders and Delivery Drivers) in the manager’s absence
• Support Store Ops Manager with ordering, inventory control and scheduling
• Hold staff accountable to Insomnia Cookies’ standards (baking, uniform, company policies, etc.)
• Upselling and overall customer service excellence - Ensuring all team members are also upselling and providing the best customer service

Desired skills/experience:

• At least 1 year of experience in a supervisory role within a restaurant or retail store
• Prior experience conducting in-person interviews of hourly support staff
• Prior Point of Sale (POS) systems experience
• Ability to utilize MS Office, Word and our Applicant Tracking System
• Ability to work a 4-5 day work week and 1-2 mid-to-late shifts throughout the latter part of the week (Thurs- Sun)
• Must be 18 years of age or older and have legal eligibility for employment in the United States
