Job summary

Dollar General Store Manager Candidate in Perry, IA supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, supervising staff, inventory, stocking, and paperwork, with duties to develop an external candidate for the Store Manager role for a limited period.

You will assist in recruiting, merchandising, inventory control, in-stock targets, customer service leadership, store opening/closing, cash controls, and safe, well-kept stores, while traveling to other store locations as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates.
• Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with store merchandising by staging, stocking and pricing merchandise according to established practices and store manager direction.
• Assist in inventory management, including damages, markdowns, scans, paperwork and controls; conduct inventories.
• Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership.
• Model company procedures and policies as outlined in handbooks and SOPs.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure safe deposit of company funds in designated bank.
• Support store financial integrity through cashier accountability and cash control procedures.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe customer and employee environment.
• Operate store in the store manager's absence.
• Review operating statements for trends, expenses, shrink, and errors.
