Job summary

Dollar General Corporation in Canton, OH seeks a Store Manager Candidate to support the Store Manager in daily store operations, staff supervision, merchandising, inventory, and cash handling to ensure in-stock targets and customer service excellence.

This role develops external candidates for the Store Manager role through hands-on training, adherence to policies, and participation in opening/closing, paperwork and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures and deposit controls.
• Ability to learn and perform IBM cash register functions and generate reports.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Proficiency in reading diagrams, safety rules, and operating instructions.
• Understanding of recruiting, interviewing, hiring and termination processes, including legal compliance.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with store merchandising and staging, stocking, and pricing.
• Assist in all aspects of inventory management and conduct inventories.
• Follow ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership.
• Follow policies and procedures as outlined in manuals.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure safe deposit of company funds and cash control.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment.
• Operate store in the manager's absence.
• Review operating statements to identify trends and opportunities.
• Complete paperwork and documentation on time.
