GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking, receiving, paperwork, and store needs. This position is intended to develop external candidates for the Store Manager role and is held for a limited period.
DUTIES and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
- Assist with store merchandising by staging, stocking, and storing merchandise; ensuring presentation according to store standards and manager direction; utilizing fixtures, signage, and pricing effectively.
- Assist in inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, and facility controls; conduct inventories.
- Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
- Provide excellent customer service leadership.
- Model company procedures and policies as outlined in employee handbook, SOP manual, and communications.
- Participate in store opening and closing activities.
- Ensure secure deposit of all company funds in designated bank.
- Maintain store financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, and security practices.
- Maintain a clean, well-stocked, and safe store environment.
- Operate store in the absence of the store manager.
- Review operating statements to identify business trends, expenses, potential shrink, and errors.
- Complete all paperwork and documentation timely and accurately.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:
- Ability to interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, and procedures manuals.
- Mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
- Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
- Ability to learn IBM cash register functions and report generation.
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Understanding of cash, facility, and safety control policies.
- Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Problem-solving skills for varied situations.
Preference may be given to bilingual Spanish speakers at certain locations.
WORK EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- One year of retail experience preferred for external candidates.

- Frequent lifting up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting up to 55 pounds.
- Occasional climbing using ladders.
- Occasional driving for bank deposits and store visits.
- Fast-paced environment with moderate noise.
- Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
