Overall Job Summary
This position is responsible for proficiency in all areas of a retail operation. The role serves as the second in charge of the Store Manager, providing leadership and direction to the store team, ensuring a positive customer shopping experience, and performing operational activities throughout the store. The position also involves promoting a safe and productive work environment, and training Team Members on policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Work scheduled shifts, including varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Support a safe and productive work environment by following policies and procedures.
- Support selling initiatives by engaging with customers, advising on products, and providing memorable service.
- Assist with store operations such as driving sales, customer loyalty, planning, and delegating tasks.
- Support Team Member hiring, staffing, training, and development.
- Execute merchandising activities, perform opening/closing procedures, and manage deposits.
- Assess store conditions, organize workflows, and prioritize tasks.
- Handle merchandise recovery, price changes, and customer complaints.
- Adhere to loss prevention standards and respond to alarms.
- Operate cash registers and assist Team Members with policies and procedures.
- Ensure the safety and care of live animals, maintaining proper sanitation and care.
- Complete documentation for all duties performed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Previous retail leadership experience is required; pet/live animal knowledge is strongly preferred.
- Supervisory experience is preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required; ability to read, write, and count accurately is essential.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Ability to perform all team responsibilities.
- Pet/live animal knowledge is strongly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and conflict resolution abilities.
- Basic computer skills.
Working Conditions
- Indoor and outdoor environments with moderate noise levels.
- Shifts generally no less than 4 hours, possibly exceeding 8 hours.
- Maintain safety and adhere to training guidelines.
- Work on hard surfaces like concrete and asphalt with adequate lighting and temperature.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent lifting, reaching, standing, kneeling, twisting, crouching, and climbing ladders.
- Ability to move throughout the store and access all areas safely.
- Operate store equipment and complete documentation accurately.
- Read, write, and count accurately; communicate effectively.
- Complete training and certifications; travel as needed.
- Operate a vehicle for business needs.
- This position is non-sedentary and requires physical stamina.
