GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking, receiving, paperwork, and store needs. This position is intended to develop an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is held for a limited period.

DUTIES and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
2. Assist with store merchandising by facilitating and/or participating in staging, stocking, and storage of merchandise; ensuring presentation according to store standards; and properly utilizing fixtures, signage, and pricing.
3. Assist in all aspects of inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, and facility controls; prepare and conduct inventories.
4. Follow prescribed ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
5. Provide excellent customer service leadership.
6. Act as a role model by following company procedures and policies as outlined in employee handbook, SOP manual, and company communications.
7. Participate in store opening and closing activities.
8. Ensure safe deposit of all company funds in the designated bank.
9. Help maintain the financial integrity of the store through cashier accountability, key control, and adherence to security practices and cash procedures.
10. Assist in maintaining a clean, well-stocked, and safe store environment for customers and employees.
11. Operate the store in the store manager’s absence.
12. Review operating statements to identify trends, expense control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
13. Complete all paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

1. Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, and procedures manuals.
2. Ability to perform mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
3. Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
4. Ability to learn and perform IBM cash register functions, including report generation.
5. Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
6. Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies (deposits, keys, SAFE and STARS programs, etc.).
7. Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance.
8. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
9. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
10. Problem-solving skills to handle various situations with limited standardization.

Preference may be given to bilingual Spanish speakers at certain locations.

Work Experience and/or Education:

1. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
2. At least one year of retail experience preferred for external candidates.

1. Frequent walking and standing.
2. Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling.

4. Frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting up to 55 pounds.
5. Occasional climbing using ladders.
6. Occasional driving or transportation to other stores or for deposits.
7. Fast-paced environment with moderate noise.
8. Occasional exposure to outside weather.

Note: Some travel with limited overnight stays required.
