Job Overview

Pay Range: Minimum $77,250.00. This position is eligible for a monthly bonus based on performance goals after training is completed.

The Retail Store Manager in Training (MIT) will complete a comprehensive training program at one of our training locations. The program is designed to prepare the MIT for the Store Manager role through hands‑on experience in all aspects of our Retail Operations; rotating through key positions, learning company policies, operational procedures, and management techniques.

Upon successful completion, the MIT will transition into a full‑time Store Manager position with full responsibility for their own Retail Store location. The Store Manager drives retail business operations and is responsible for entire store production, directly leading Assistant Store Manager(s), Production Team, and Donation Attendants.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute retail operations plan to achieve daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly goals for operating income, revenue, and production.
  • Coordinate with Retail District Manager to develop and implement strategic plans to help drive donations.
  • Monitor product levels (floor work, as‑is, recycle, trash, seasonal back‑stock) daily to achieve bottom‑line sales budget against targets.
  • Ensure payroll costs and operating costs are managed to budget.
  • Ensure Team Members deliver excellent customer service to donors and customers.
  • Ensure store locations are clean, well‑kept, and reflect the Goodwill brand appropriately.
  • Partner with community businesses and organizations to promote Goodwill mission.
  • Maintain regular and consistent in‑person attendance; serve as Goodwill ambassador to the community.
  • Transfer and cover shifts at different stores as business needs require.
  • Ensure Team Members are well‑trained and fulfill their duties and responsibilities.
  • Ensure Donation Attendants demonstrate excellent customer service in receiving donations and that donations are sorted and prepared for processing.
  • Ensure Production Team processes, prices, and displays product per company standards and to achieve store goals.
  • Under direction of Retail District Manager, partner with other store locations to allocate donations, Team Members, and leadership to maximize area performance.
  • Ensure Team Members operate per company standards and procedures.
  • Maintain performance management (coaching, discipline, performance improvement plans, and annual reviews), staffing, compensation, and development of Team Members.
  • Ensure Assistant Store Manager effectively manages performance of Retail Store Associates.
  • Play critical role in driving company culture change efforts and change management processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Essential Duties

Must have reliable transportation in order to perform daily tasks such as dropping off the bank deposit, helping at other stores, and attending personal training and development classes.

Must be able to transfer to different stores at any time due to business needs.

Partners with support areas (Asset Protection, Human Resources, Safety, Finance, Learning & Development, etc.) to further business goals and ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.

Builds a high‑performing team.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years’ work experience in retail management, preferably thrift.
  • One year of customer service experience.
  • Understanding of financial metrics, reporting, and budget management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to pass a background check, as applicable.
  • Ability to speak and read English proficiently.
