The Manager Trainee is responsible for learning the duties of the Store Manager position and developing the skills required for a Store Manager role. Primary duties include delivering a Legendary Customer Experience, building the team, driving sales, managing inventory, managing profit and sales, expense control, reducing and managing shrink.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

As a Manager Trainee, you will observe and learn the following duties and skills required for a Store Manager role:

  • Recruit, hire, develop, evaluate, discipline, and retain efficient team members.
  • Deliver Legendary Customer Service through GURA:
  • Greet the Customer.
  • Uncover Customer Needs & Wants.
  • Recommend Product Solutions.
  • Ask to Add Value & Appreciate the Customer.
  • Create a welcoming environment and foster a sense of belonging in the Store. Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion daily among Team Members, Customers, Suppliers, and Communities. Ensure Team Members reflect the communities served and provide a supportive, engaging experience.
  • Schedule, organize, and plan daily activities for team members to ensure efficient store operations.
  • Lead team members to ensure a Legendary shopping experience that differentiates from the competition.
  • Communicate company processes, policies, and directives to team members. Evaluate their effectiveness and coordinate with District/Regional Managers to resolve issues.
  • Learn to create a desirable work environment through promotions, recognition, and empowerment.
  • Handle problem solving and conflict resolution for both team members and customers.
  • Learn sales and profit management, aiming to achieve top and bottom-line results.
  • Promote a safe and productive work environment.
  • Manage daily merchandise flow to ensure adequate stock and inventory controls.
  • Learn the process of organizing merchandise resets to company standards periodically.
  • Implement and maintain merchandise presentation standards.
  • Evaluate the competitive environment and collaborate with Operations and Merchandising teams to ensure quality and performance.
  • Paperwork: Train on processing invoices, schedules, product orders, returns, and POs reports; conduct sales forecasting, payroll analysis, and budget review; document evaluations and corrective actions.
  • Inventory: Manage periodic price changes, communicate inventory needs to buyers and distribution centers, and work with supply chain teams to resolve inventory issues.
  • Special Projects: Coordinate sales events, assist in solving district issues, and engage in community involvement.
  • Team Member Relations: Reinforce company values, address team member concerns, and assess development opportunities.
  • Budgeting and Auditing: Responsible for budgeting, sales forecasting, and store process audits.
  • Required Qualifications

    Experience: Retail, farming, ranching, pet/equine, or welding knowledge is preferred. Supervisory experience is a plus. Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.

    Education: High school diploma; Bachelor’s in Agricultural Science or Business preferred. Equivalent education and experience will be considered.

    Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
    • Valid driver’s license for company driving.
    • Proficiency with POS systems and merchandise processing.
    • Ability to read, write, and accurately complete documentation.
    • Access to all store areas, including selling floor, stockroom, and register.
    • Operate store equipment such as dollies, hand-trucks, forklifts, computers, and registers.
    • Move merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs.
    • Work varied hours, including nights, weekends, and peak seasons, with a minimum of 52 hours/week.
    • Stand and walk for extended periods.
    • Travel to other store locations and company events.
    Working Conditions
    • Normal office environment.
    Physical Requirements
    • Standing, walking, reaching overhead, driving, lifting up to 50 lbs.
