The Manager Trainee is responsible for learning the duties of the Store Manager position and developing the skills required for a Store Manager role. Primary duties include delivering a Legendary Customer Experience, building the team, driving sales, managing inventory, managing profit and sales, expense control, reducing and managing shrink.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

As a Manager Trainee, you will observe and learn the following duties and skills required for a Store Manager role:

  • Recruiting, hiring, developing, evaluating, disciplining, and retaining efficient team members.
  • Delivering Legendary Customer Service through GURA:
    • Greet the Customer.
    • Uncover Customer Needs & Wants.
    • Recommend Product Solutions.
    • Ask to Add Value & Appreciate the Customer.
  • Creating a welcoming environment and fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the store, ensuring team members mirror the communities served and promoting an engaging experience for team members and customers.
  • Scheduling, organizing, and planning daily activities for team members to ensure efficient store operations.
  • Leading team members to ensure a Legendary shopping experience that differentiates from the competition.
  • Communicating company processes, policies, and directives; evaluating their effectiveness and coordinating with management to improve.
  • Creating a positive work environment through promotions, recognition, and empowerment.
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution for team members and customers.
  • Learning sales and profit management, with accountability for achieving financial goals.
  • Promoting a safe and productive work environment.
  • Managing merchandise flow and inventory controls.
  • Organizing merchandise resets according to company standards.
  • Implementing and maintaining merchandise presentation standards.
  • Evaluating the competitive environment and working with teams to ensure quality and performance.
  • Handling paperwork such as invoices, schedules, product orders, returns, and POs reports; conducting sales forecasting, payroll analysis, and budget reviews; documenting evaluations and corrective actions.
  • Managing inventory needs, price changes, and collaborating with buyers and supply chain teams to resolve issues.
  • Coordinating and conducting special sales events; supporting district issues and operational needs; engaging with the community.
  • Building team member relations by reinforcing company values, addressing issues, and developing team members for advancement.
  • Learning budgeting, sales forecasting, and store process auditing.
Required Qualifications

Experience in retail, farming, ranching, pet/equine, or welding is preferred. Supervisory experience is a plus. Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.

Education: High school diploma required; Bachelor’s in Agricultural Science or Business preferred. Equivalent experience considered.

Preferred knowledge, skills, or abilities
  • Valid driver’s license for company travel.
  • Proficiency with POS systems and merchandise processing.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math for documentation.
  • Access to all store areas and operation of store equipment.
  • Ability to lift 0-50 lbs and work varied hours, including weekends and peak seasons.
Working Conditions
  • Normal office environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Standing, walking, reaching overhead, driving, lifting up to 50 lbs.
