Overall Job Summary
The Manager Trainee is responsible for learning the duties of the Store Manager position and developing the skills required for a Store Manager role. Primary duties include delivering a Legendary Customer Experience, building the team, driving sales, managing inventory, managing profit and sales, expense control, reducing and managing shrink.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)
- Recruiting, hiring, developing, evaluating, disciplining, and retaining efficient team members.

- Ask to Add Value & Appreciate the Customer.
- Creating and fostering a welcoming environment and sense of belonging in the Store. Ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion are experienced daily among Team Members, Customers, Suppliers, and Communities. Ensure Team Members mirror the communities the Store serves. Foster a supportive and engaging environment through diverse backgrounds, perspectives, ideas, and innovative thinking.
- Schedule, organize, and plan daily activities for team members to ensure efficient store operations.
- Lead team members to provide a Legendary shopping experience that differentiates from the competition.
- Communicate company processes, policies, and directives to team members. Evaluate those processes for effectiveness and coordinate with District/Regional Managers to improve them.
- Create a desirable work environment through promotions, recognition, and empowerment.
- Handle problem solving and conflict resolution for team members and customers.
- Learn sales and profit management; responsible for achieving top and bottom line results.
- Promote a safe and productive work environment.
- Manage daily merchandise flow to ensure adequate stock and inventory controls.
- Organize merchandise resets per company standards.
- Implement and sustain merchandise presentation standards.
- Evaluate the competitive environment and collaborate with Operations and Merchandising teams to ensure quality and performance.
- Handle paperwork such as invoices, schedules, product orders, returns, POs, sales forecasting, payroll analysis, and team evaluations.
- Manage inventory needs and communicate with buyers and supply chain.
- Coordinate and conduct special sales events and support district issues and operational needs.
- Develop team members for advancement and address team member issues, collaborating with HR when necessary.
- Assist with budgeting, sales forecasting, and store audits.
Required Qualifications
Experience in retail, farming, ranching, pet/equine, or welding is preferred. Supervisory experience is a plus. Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.
Education: High school diploma or Bachelor’s in Agricultural-Science or Business preferred. Relevant experience may be considered.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
- Valid driver’s license for company driving.
- Proficiency with POS systems and merchandise processing.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic math for documentation.
- Ability to access all store areas and operate equipment like forklifts, computers, and cash registers.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work varied hours, including weekends and peak seasons.
- Willingness to travel between stores and to company functions.

- Normal office and retail store environment.

- Standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, reaching overhead, driving, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
