Job summary

Safeway in Sitka, AK seeks a versatile Person In Charge (PIC) who serves as the primary store contact for customers and, in the absence of the Store Manager, assumes leadership with authority to operate the store for maximum profit and service.

The PIC will supervise employees, perform cashiering tasks, handle emergencies, ensure policy adherence, and maintain a clean, safe shopping environment while supporting multiple departments.

Qualifications

• Experience with customer service procedures.
• Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Knowledge of all positions within the store.
• Ability to work independently.
• Desire: prior clerk or manager experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service as defined by employer within company policy.
• Handle emergencies, customer complaints, and supervise store personnel.
• Maintain familiarity with company policies and procedures.
• Supervise the sales floor to monitor service and product replenishment.
• Replace stock in displays near the checkout area.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Assist other cashiers with computer, register, and scanner problems.
• Perform basic office functions to assist customers and personnel.
• Operate the cash register to total customers’ final bill, receive payment and give change.
• Bag groceries and assist with carry out if needed.
• May be responsible for close of day functions and stock counts.
• Other duties as assigned.
