Job summary

The State of Indiana is seeking a Stores Clerk at Putnamville Correctional Facility in Greencastle, Indiana. You will stock, disburse, and control goods for incarcerated individuals, transporting supplies from the warehouse to the commissary and supervising inmates assisting with these tasks.

Responsibilities

Putnamville Correctional Facility is a medium‑security facility in Greencastle, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 2,500 incarcerated adult males. Established in 1914, the facility has earned notable environmental and community service awards. Role Overview:

As a Stores Clerk, you will perform a wide variety of tasks in the overall operation of the commissary which involves stocking, disbursing, and controlling goods and supplies for incarcerated individuals. This includes transporting supplies from the warehouse to the commissary and supervising incarcerated individuals in assisting with these tasks.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

• Authorize the accuracy of all orders received in the storeroom and authorizeall goods received.
• Contactvendors regarding partial shipments and/or misorders.
• Maintaineddetailed inventory records and records of items ordered.
• Evaluateand recognizerecord-keeping or storage procedures as necessary.
• Ensureproper storage procedures and rotation of stock for perishable items.
• Makerecommendations on purchase of new equipment for warehouse and maintenance required in building.
• Overseeand assembles equipment received in “knocked down” condition.
• May ensure the security of incarcerated individuals staff assigned to the warehouse.

What You'll Need for Success:

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

• Thorough knowledge of requisitioning and disbursing procedures, consumption rates of stored items and inventory control procedures.
• Thorough knowledge of stock items, their locations and the proper methods of storing a variety of goods and supplies based upon efficient space utilization and a variety of state and federal regulations.
• Practical knowledge of state regulations in handling and storing foodstuffs and perishables.
• Ability to train inmates and staff in proper operation of all equipment and proper methods of storage.
• Ability to maintain detailed, accurate inventory and purchasing records.
• Ability to operate forklift, hand-truck and other mechanical equipment in warehouse.

A degree is not required. However, experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
