Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized, and experienced Storage Manager to oversee daily operations at our fine art storage facility. This role is pivotal in maintaining the highest standards of care, security, and environmental control for high-value artworks, antiques, and collectibles. The ideal candidate has a strong background in art handling or museum-quality storage, excellent leadership skills, and a deep commitment to preserving the integrity of each item in our care. This role requires a strong background in art handling and registrarial practices, along with the ability to manage staff and client relationships in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate and manage all inbound and outbound shipments across two warehouse locations, ensuring timely and accurate scheduling in collaboration with clients, vendors, and shippers.
Maintain and oversee a cloud-based inventory management system; ensure accurate logging and documentation of all incoming, outgoing, and stored artworks.
Ensure best practices are followed in all aspects of art handling, packing, crating, transportation, and storage.
Supervise and support a team of warehouse contractors and an administrative assistant; provide clear guidance, scheduling, and workflow management.
Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their needs and delivering excellent service to storage and shipping clients.
Assist with physical art handling, including packing, loading, and installations as needed.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in art logistics, art handling, or registrarial roles.
Proven experience in inventory management and registrarial documentation.
Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to fast-changing priorities and client needs.
Professional demeanor with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small, dedicated team.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work at height (e.g., climbing ladders).
Working knowledge of best practices for art packing, handling, and shipping.
Preferred Qualifications (Highly Desirable):
Forklift certification or experience operating a forklift.
Experience arranging and managing international art shipments.
Prior experience in staff supervision or team leadership roles.
