Job summary

The City of Waukesha is seeking a Parts & Inventory Clerk for the Public Works Department. This role maintains and issues inventory, orders replacements, and delivers parts to satellite stations. The position supports snow removal dispatch and processes invoices.

A CDL is required with endorsements; Wisconsin driver’s license is necessary. Typical schedule is 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with occasional nights and weekends. Interviews TBD; start date TBD.

About the Position

This position maintains and issues the Department's inventory of necessary parts, supplies, equipment and tools, researches replacement parts and picks up and delivers parts.

Schedule: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, occasional nights and weekends required

Essential Job Functions
  1. Keeps inventory of parts, supplies, equipment, and tools for entire city garage.
  2. Maintains accurate records of inventory.
  3. Picks up parts and supplies and delivers to satellite mechanic stations.
  4. Has equipment and tools maintained, repaired and/or replaced as needed; performs safety checks.
  5. Keeps stockroom & satellite mechanic stations stock areas orderly.
  6. Orders replacement parts and shops around for best prices.
  7. Assists with fuel system and fueling equipment for vehicles and equipment at two sites; monitors levels of diesel fuel and gasoline to ensure availability as needed. Must be able to obtain and maintain class A/B underground fuel tank certification within one (1) year of hire.
  8. Performs general office work; answers telephones as needed and routes calls as required.
  9. Assists with snow removal operations as dispatcher with other stockroom personnel during snow operations.
  10. Processing of invoices for correct payment and posting to work orders.
  11. Actively working with personnel to procure parts and supplies as needed.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Knowledge of
  • Supplies, tools and materials used in the public works department.
  • Inventory stock control.
  • Standard office procedures.
  • The use of standard office equipment including computers and relevant software.
  • Occupational hazards and the practices and techniques used to avoid or minimize risks.
  • Must be familiar and capable of using Word and excel daily.
Ability to
  • Keep accurate records and make reports.
  • Understand and carry out instructions.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Multitask and prioritize workload.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, vendors and suppliers.
Skill in
  • Organization and record-keeping.
  • Oral and written communications.
  • Snow removal operations.
Necessary Special Requirements
  • CDL with A, B and C endorsements, N preferred but not required;
  • valid Wisconsin driver's license;
  • ability to complete a pre-employment post offer physical including drug test upon hire, and random drug and alcohol tests thereafter.
