Job summary

Building Material Distributors, Inc. is hiring for a warehouse associate responsible for picking, loading, unloading, and staging products in a fast-paced facility in California.

You will operate a forklift and power saw, verify order accuracy, and maintain clean, organized inventory areas while following safety procedures. Two years of material handling experience and familiarity with engineered wood products are desirable.

Qualifications

  • Two years of work experience in a material handling position in a warehouse using a forklift.
  • Experience handling engineered wood products and using a power saw to cut lumber or EWP desirable.
  • Ability to verify orders, tag and stage items prior to delivery.
  • Follow safety policies per OSHA and company requirements.
  • Maintain equipment and perform safety checks; report concerns.

  • Load and unload products in route sequence; ensure proper documentation.
  • Document discrepancies, sign packing lists, and forward to office.
  • Monitor inventory, conduct cycle counts, and adjust bin locations.
  • Follow quality control procedures and notify buyers of issues.

Job description

1. Pick and pull products from assigned areas according to customers' orders using a forklift or by hand

2. Cut Engineered Wood Products (EWP) using a power saw according to customer specifications

3. Verify customers' orders are accurate, complete, tagged and properly staged prior to loading products onto vehicle/trailer for delivery

4. Prepare vehicles/trailers for loading by removing all material from vehicles

5. Load product onto common carrier or Company vehicles in route sequence according to loading documents

6. Unload incoming product from common carrier or Company vehicles

7. Verify quantity of product received with packing list and inspect for damage. Sign packing list noting any discrepancies and forward to office for processing

8. Stage products for delivery by route in designated areas

9. Process returned products by matching product with corresponding documents and replacing product in proper bin location

10. Perform stock checks of bin locations and make required adjustments to correct inventory

11. Follow quality control procedures by inspecting products for damage and to meet specifications and notify Buyer and management of products not meeting quality control standards

12. Notify supervisor of product damage or shortages

13. Record and monitor items with a shelf-life and notify appropriate Buyer when material has expired. If appropriate, make inventory adjustments.

14. Assist with cycle counts and physical inventories to ensure inventory levels are accurate

15. Review and make recommendations to resolve discrepancies between physical counts and system records

16. Review and make recommendations for product labeling, descriptions, quality, and packaging in order to improve product identification and picking accuracy of warehouse operations

17. Direct the flow of inbound trucks/common carriers in the yard to minimize congestion and prepare for unloading

18. Follow safety policies and procedures as established by the Company, OSHA or any other regulatory or mandated programs

19. Maintain forklifts, power saws and other equipment in good working order, perform safety checks and notify supervisor of any concerns

20. Maintain a clean and neat work environment free from dirt and clutter

21. Work cooperatively with co-workers and other departments in order to keep them informed of relevant information, allow proper transfer of inquiries beyond the scope of position, and assure positive relationships are maintained

22. Perform additional duties as required and requested

Work Experience:

Two years of work experience in a material handling position in a warehouse using a forklift. Experience handling engineered wood products and using a power saw to cut lumber or EWP desirable.
