Job summary

Cedar Crossing Casino & Entertainment Center in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a Full-Time Kitchen Steward to keep the kitchen clean, organized, and compliant with sanitation codes. You will assist the Sous Chef, manage supplies, and maintain safety practices throughout shifts.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for ensuring the kitchen is clean, well maintained and always organized. Maintains a high standard of cleanliness according to the food service sanitation codes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended as an overview of key responsibilities of the work for this position and are not all inclusive:

  • Provides next-level guest service to internal and external guests. Demonstrates the Cedar Crossing culture in all interactions with guests and co-workers.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information in accordance with established procedures with company policy and state regulations.
  • Ensures compliance with all department and company policies, procedures, internal controls, and government regulations.
  • Responsible for creating and fostering an environment of support and motivation for Team Members.
  • Complies with department standards, guidelines and objectives to include adherence to all Food Service and Sanitation, OSHA, and Hazcom standards and guidelines.
  • Cleans throughout the shift, cleans spills immediately, and practices safe knife handling.
  • Uses chemicals as prescribed and responsibly. Ensures that all chemicals are in properly labeled containers.
  • Maintains floor cleanliness, always uses “wet floor” safety signage when floors are being cleaned or are wet.
  • Removes trash and waste, cleans trash can and replenishes with liners as needed. Ensures items being disposed of are appropriate.
  • Reports all breakage.
  • Operates dish machine and completes daily maintenance.
  • Assists the Sous Chef in putting supplies away according to stocking requirements.
  • Adheres to kitchen setup roadmaps.
  • Resolves problems that are within the position's scope of authority and recommends courses of action to resolve problems that are beyond the scope of authority to the position’s supervisor.
  • Keeps position supervisor informed of relevant activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent required. One (1) year supervisory experience in a kitchen highly preferred. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. Must have attention to detail and accuracy. Interprets and follow through on a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Must have ability to:

  • Communicate effectively with all levels of Team Members, guests and outside contacts.
REGULATORY AND COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to the other duties described herein, every Team Member has the following responsibilities related to compliance with laws and regulations:

  • Attend required training sessions offered by the casino.
  • Obtain and maintain required license(s).
  • Perform the duties described in compliance with local laws and regulations.
  • Take the necessary steps to ensure minors are not allowed to gamble or loiter in gambling areas, drink alcoholic beverages, or purchase tobacco.
  • Have knowledge of the ordinances, regulations, laws, policies, and procedures relating to the team member’s department.
  • Have knowledge of the Property’s programs to address problem gambling.
  • Consult with the appropriate individuals and maintain an effective system of written policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with gaming regulations and Internal Controls.
  • Take the appropriate steps to investigate exceptions, fraud, and potential violations and report such instances to the appropriate levels of management.
  • Report any acts of wrongdoing on behalf of any Team Member of which they have knowledge.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must have ability to:

  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Move around all work areas effectively and efficiently.
  • Work long hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Sit or stand for extended amounts of time.
  • Work in kitchen setting where temperatures varies, hot and humid conditions.
  • Be physically mobile with reasonable accommodations including ability to push, pull, carry and lift up to 25 lbs., and the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.
  • Work in an environment with moderate to loud noise levels, may be exposed to secondhand smoke and varied light levels, including flashing lights.
