Job summary

PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield, Oregon seeks a Sterile Processing Technician for the night shift. You will prepare instruments and trays, sterilize equipment, and support surgical teams to ensure safe patient care.

The role requires experience in sterile processing, certification within 1 year (CRCST/CSPDT/CER), and strong communication skills. This is a full-time position with comprehensive benefits and union representation.

Qualifications

• 3+ months of Sterile Processing experience or related role (Veterinary/Dental/Surgical support).
• National Sterile Processing/Distribution Certification within 1 year of hire: CRCST, CSPDT, or other recognized cert.
• CER certification within 1 year of hire if working in PHMG.
• Basic computer skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical instruments, procedure trays, and medical equipment for patient care.
• Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize instruments according to established standards.
• Operate autoclaves and other sterilization equipment safely and accurately.
• Ensure correct instruments and supplies are provided for scheduled procedures.
• Organize and restock department inventory and sterile supplies.
• Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble instrument sets to ensure quality and readiness.
• Maintain sterilization equipment and report concerns promptly.
• Collaborate with team members across procedural and surgical services.

Full-Time | 1.00 FTE | Night Shift (2100-0730)

Pay Range: $23.47 - $34.82 per hour
The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting.

What You'll Do

As a Sterile Processing Technician, you'll help ensure caregivers have the equipment and instruments they need to provide exceptional patient care.

In this role, you will:

• Prepare surgical instruments, procedure trays, and medical equipment for patient care.
• Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize instruments according to established standards.
• Operate autoclaves and other sterilization equipment safely and accurately.
• Ensure surgical teams receive the correct instruments and supplies for scheduled procedures.
• Organize and restock department inventory and sterile supplies.
• Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble instrument sets to ensure quality and readiness.
• Maintain sterilization equipment and report any concerns promptly.
• Support a safe, efficient environment focused on quality patient care.
• Collaborate with team members across procedural and surgical services.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

Required

• Minimum three (3) months of Sterile Processing Technician experience OR
• Three (3) months of experience in a related role such as Veterinary Technician, Dental Technician, Surgical Support Aide, or another healthcare-related technician position involving the cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of surgical instruments.
• National Sterile Processing/Distribution Certification within one (1) year of hire:
  • CRCST through HSPA (formerly IAHCSMM), or
  • CSPDT through CBSPD, or
  • Another nationally recognized sterile processing certification.
• Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) certification within one (1) year of hire if working in PHMG.
• Basic computer skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a National Central Service Technician program.
• Six (6) months of Sterile Processing experience.
