Job summary

Penn Medicine is seeking a Central Processing Technician to support the Operating Room by decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, packaging, and sterilizing surgical instrumentation. The role is part of the Perioperative Services Team, ensuring instrument sets are prepared for scheduled procedures and dispatched correctly.

Responsibilities include utilizing instrument tracking systems, adhering to department standards, and contributing to the professional development of the team.

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or GED.
• Certification as a Central Processing Technician OR CRCST must be obtained within 18 months from date of hire.
• 0-1 years Instrument processing experience.

Responsibilities

• Cleans, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, packages, and sterilizes surgical instrumentation, linens and identifies those in need of repairs.
• Follows established priority list, edited O.R. schedule, and telephone requests for required instruments.
• Navigates automated instrument tracking system software. Produces a minimum of 15 instrumentation sets per day.
• Demonstrates basic knowledge of the T-doc system.
• Clearly documents as applicable, all processed material not tracked via electronic system.
• Understands the needs and expectations of patients, faculty, and staff of UPHS and other affiliates.
• HIPAA Compliance and JCAHO Compliance.
