Job summary

Join Coastal Carolina Medical Center as a Certified Sterile Processing Technician with Novant Health. This full-time role offers a 4x10 hour shift pattern (0730–1800) and close collaboration with OR staff to manage rapid instrument turnaround.

You will decontaminate, clean, and disinfect instruments and scopes, inspect equipment, and assemble sterile packs. Required are a High School diploma and a Sterile processing certification (CBSPD/CRCST/CSPDT); one year hospital experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• One year of hospital Sterile Reprocessing Department experience preferred.
• Sterile processing tech certification is required (CBSPD, CRCST or CSPDT).
• Ability to validate skills and read and follow instrument set assembly instructions.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with OR and Endoscopy teams to prioritize instrument and scope turnaround times.
• Decontaminate, clean, and disinfect surgical instruments and scopes per OSHA, AAMI, and CDC guidelines.
• Inspect instruments for cleanliness and function; report damaged equipment.
• Assemble and wrap instrument trays and sterile kits using count sheets.
• Operate and monitor autoclaves, gas plasma, and washers; document indicators and cycles.
• Maintain records of sterilization cycles, load verifications, and equipment maintenance logs.

What We Offer

Status: Full Time

Schedule: 0730-1800 - 4 10 hour shifts a week

What You'll Do

• Collaborate closely with the OR and Endoscopy nursing staff to prioritize urgent instrument and scope turnaround times.


• Decontaminate, clean, and disinfect surgical instruments, medical equipment, and rigid/flexible scopes according to OSHA, AAMI, and CDC guidelines.


• Inspect instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and defects prior to sterilization; report any damaged equipment for repair.


• Assemble and wrap instrument trays, surgical packs, and specialized kits accurately using count sheets.


• Operate and monitor sterilization equipment (e.g., steam autoclaves, low-temperature gas plasma, washers/disinfectors), ensuring all biological and chemical indicators are documented correctly.


• Maintain meticulous records of sterilization cycles, load verifications, and equipment maintenance logs to ensure full regulatory compliance.


• Execute high-level disinfection protocols, including testing and logging chemical minimum effective concentrations (MEC).


• Safely handle, transport, and store clean and contaminated endoscopes using designated infection control pathways to prevent cross-contamination.

What We’re Looking For

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.


• Experience: One year of experience in a hospital Sterile Reprocessing Department, preferred.


• Licensure/Certification: Sterile processing tech certification, required. CBSPD, CRCST or CSPDT, required.


• Additional Skills (required): Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competencytesting. Demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation and sterile/aseptic technique. Ability to read and comprehend written instructions to assemble instrument sets and trays. Ability to learn and understand medical terminology.
