Job summary

Houston Physicians Hospital is seeking a PRN Sterile Processing Tech to support sterile processing in a fast-paced surgical setting. The role involves preparing and sterilizing instruments, setting up OR trays, and maintaining accurate records of sterilization activities.

The ideal candidate has a High School diploma or GED, basic computer skills, and CRCST/CSPDT certification preferred, with 6 months to 2 years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • CRCST or CSPDT certification preferred.
  • Six months of experience preferred.
  • 1–2 years’ experience as Instrument Room Technician preferred.
  • Experience with all sterilizers and operating room instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items.
  • Must be an excellent team player with strong communication to staff and physicians.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating room instrument trays and ensure instruments are sterile.
  • Operate steam/gravity sterilizers and Sterrad sterilizers.
  • Maintain accurate reports and records related to sterilization activities.
  • Adapt quickly to changing patient conditions and needs.

Sterile Processing Tech at Houston Physicians Hospital

The Sterile Processing Tech provides professional nursing care through assessment, planning, treatment and evaluation of the patient. The SPD Tech is responsible for delivering safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, educative and individualized nursing care to patients and families.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Computer skills, required.
  • CRCST or CSPDT certification preferred.
  • Six months of experience, preferred.
  • 1-2 years experience as Instrument Room Technician preferred.
  • Experience with all types of sterilizers.
  • Knows operating room instrumentation.
  • Organized the setting up of the operating room instrument tray.
  • Understands operation of steam/ gravity sterilizer.
  • Understands Sterrad sterilizers.
  • Ability to prepare reports and keep records.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing condition of the patient when needed.
  • Must be an excellent team player and have the ability to communicate with staff, patients and physicians.
