Qualifications

• Must be able to retain knowledge of identification and handling requirements of surgical instruments, medical supplies and equipment.
• Must be able to understand, speak, and write English fluently to communicate with the nursing, technical and medical staff.

Responsibilities

• Collects, receives, cleans, disinfects, and decontaminates instruments, supplies and equipment according to hospital policies and procedures.
• Operates washer-decontaminator, cart washer, and ultrasonic cleaner to mechanically decontaminate instruments and equipment.
• Inspects instruments and equipment to ensure proper working order and cleanliness.
• Scans bar codes and selects appropriate count sheets for trays; ensures instruments are accounted for.
• Loads and unloads sterilizer and documents accordingly.
• Monitors sterilizers and equipment per QA standards and improvement programs.
• Performs daily biological and diagnostic tests and documents results.
• Communicates with OR staff to prioritize workloads and facilitate turnover of trays.
